Laying the Foundations for Success

Yep, it is Day 1 of the challenge and after watching the warm-up videos, I have reached the nitty gritty of Day 1. We are now going to go through the “Critical Exercises” that need to be done to lay the foundation for my success.

The 3 exercises are:

  1. Finding Your Why
  2. Life By Design
  3. What’s Your Number

1. Finding Your Why

Most people want to earn an income online and break away from the never-ending time-for-money construct. For some reason, most of us don’t really sit down and look inside as to why we want to break this repetitive loop.

According to Dean Holland, this is the most crucial part of succeeding in your online affiliate marketing business.

He provides an exercise where he thinks it may sound corny or ridiculous to ask yourself the hard question “Why do you really want this“?

The method he describes is that of peeling away the layers of an onion to reveal the true reason why you are embarking on this affiliate marketing journey…

Ask yourself, Why do want an Internet Business? Then write down your answer, and now ask yourself why again just like a curious 4-year-old toddler. Keep repeating this process until you basically cannot answer the question any further.

DEFINE YOUR WHY?

Here is my breakdown of the exercise:

  1. Dean, Why do want an Internet Business?
  2. I am really tired of being tied down to working a certain set of hours for a certain wage.
  3. Why Dean?
  4. I don’t make enough money for the work I put in and am not appreciated for my work ethic and diligence.
  5. But why, Dean?
  6. Because I want to live a life on my own terms.
  7. Why?
  8. Because I am a human being and feel there is more to life than just working for someone else, and being stuck in one country due to a lack of finances.
  9. Why?
  10. Because I want to travel the world as a world citizen not stuck in one part of the world struggling to survive.
  11. Why?
  12. Because I want to learn about the different cultures and see this beautiful planet in all its glory.
  13. Why?
  14. I want an internet business, so I can design my perfect life. The ability to live anywhere in the world without borders. I want to be able to travel to any city of my choice and also help my son Akira Santillan achieve his goals on the ATP Tennis Tour and support him in any way he needs.

The reason I want an Internet Business is basically this:

I want the freedom to be able to work from anywhere on this planet, to enhance my life and knowledge of life by traveling and living in countries where I choose to be, and most importantly to provide financial and moral support for my son who is a professional tennis athlete.

2. Life By Design

Next, Dean Holland wants you to take your why and design the ultimate life experience.

He poses this question: “What do you truly want out of life?

an image of a person designing there future life

From this he wants you to imagine it and visualize it, be creative, and really go ballistic because anything you can think you can manifest! Right? Well, that’s why we are doing this challenge.

So he has given us the following cues or starting points to design your ultimate life:

  1. Where do you want to live? Which country, state, or city?
  2. What home or accommodation do want to live in?
  3. What type of food do you want to eat?
  4. What kind of recreation and entertainment do you want to do?
  5. How many vacations do you want to do?
  6. What cars do you want to own and drive?
  7. What charities do want to support?

My Life Design Answers

  1. I want to live in any city of my choice dependent on where my son is attending a tennis tournament.
  2. I would like to live in hotels and or rental units that are close to the tournaments with a view of that area.
  3. I want to eat healthy and nutritious food in that area and learn the cooking skills required. Occasionally would love to spoil my family with restaurant food.
  4. I would love to see nature, wildlife, and festivities occurring in that area we are in.
  5. My life would be one vacation as I am not interested in material possessions but rather use my hard-earned internet income to become a gypsy which I already am.
  6. I just need a car to get from A to B and if required can always use public transport.
  7. I would love to support children whose parents are struggling to feed and clothe them, I probably would start my own charity to make sure the children in need are getting what they need.

As you tell from this, we are just looking for freedom of movement to enjoy what this beautiful planet has to offer by enjoying humanity, nature, and cultures in their different forms

3. What’s Your Number

Now that you have completed 2 of the critical exercises above it is now time to work out what it is all going to cost to live and dump your full-time job.

Once, you have calculated your number to live your dream life Dean Holland now takes you through a simple method called “Stepping Stones”. He uses this process to make you understand that you are not going to go from $0 to your calculated Number in one step.

You will now need to mentally think about the steps required to achieve your desired outcome, by devising simple but achievable steps toward it.

Dean’s Golden Number

$100 US Notes

This is one of the countries that I want to visit according to the tournament calendar and each of its expenses.

  1. Thailand
    • Flights: US$2506
    • Food: US$50 x 30 = US$1500
    • Transport: US$20 x 30 = US$600
    • Accommodation: US$400 – US$600
    • Recreation: US$2000
Total for this trip approx. US$7000 – US$8000

So this is typically what we would be doing monthly so by working out a simple budget we know generally on average what our monthly number would be. So I am going to round that number up to USD$10000. As we are very simple people we don’t need much to live as long as we are breathing and being grateful for the experience!
